We are glad we found Armstrong Simmonds Architects to help us on our first project. We had bought a run-down terraced house near Clapham Common with the goal of extending and refurbing to increase value. John initially impressed us by first listening carefully to what we wanted to do, then showing us creative ways to achieve the results and finish we were looking for.

Safe to say we certainly have managed that and both John and Alan have been instrumental in doing so. The guidance and consideration at every step have exceeded our expectations and Alan’s attention to detail during the build has been critical for the high standards we have set for this project.

They have provided us with a service which reflects every stage of the design and build. Starting with the initial drawings, schedule of works, tendering and interior design. We also employed ASA for Contract Administration to be the key middle-man between us and the builder, which they were happy to help.

We are now underway with our second project with ASA and they have been able to deliver the final drawings for planning within a fairly tight time frame, without hindering on quality. I know the whole team worked hard to help bring our vision to life and it’s been brilliant working with them over the last 18 months. They have shown a great ability to solve any issues that arose quickly and are able to communicate effectively with different contractors at all levels. I have no doubt the next redevelopment project will go well.

We chose Alan and John for our extensive project and incredibly pleased with that choice and the result. We worked with Alan and the team from Armstrong Simmonds for 3 years from start to finish to achieve the full renovation of a London townhouse. It was a challenging brief given the nature of the property but collectively what has been achieved is an outstanding end result. John and his team have been brilliant to work with for our full house renovation and extension in SW London. Our house is quite unique and that combined with it being in a conservation area we knew it wouldn’t be a straight forward planning process – but Armstrong Simmonds did a fantastic job and helped us navigate us through every step. We appointed Armstrong Simmonds Architects following a competitive tender to remodel and extend a Victorian terraced house in Southfields. We worked closely with John Armstrong on the initial designs and the planning considerations. Surveying of the existing property was swiftly conducted and the team were very proactive in the management of our planning applications which were granted with no amendments. Although we only specified a basic drawings package our builders and those that tendered for the project were complimentary on the detail and thoroughness of the plans. John also made himself available to discuss issues during the build which has been extremely helpful.

I would recommend asking to see practical examples of what is included at each price point to ensure expectations are clear on what is included.

In addition we have appointed Armstrong Simmonds Architects to produce drawings and manage the planning application for garden gym building and will likely work on additional projects with John and the team.

As a small developer I felt that Armstrong Simmonds filled the brief extremely well. I appointed Armstrong Simmonds in 2012 after vetting several other similar architectural firms. What struck me at the time was the range of expertise within the firm, but also their ability to negotiate the often difficult passage of the planning process, but also some very useful contacts to the table. They have worked on several plans for me and are capable of bringing to fruition not only the plans, but also careful attention to details, architectural features, along with much needed sage advice. Their costings are reasonable and transparent. They are always ready to communicate both over the phone and in person and if the architect that you want to speak to is unavailable, they do call you back the following day. I cannot recommend them enough.

Armstrong Simmonds Architects fully understood our brief when we were redesigning our property. They quickly understood what we were looking for and fully met the brief. John and Nick did a fantastic job firstly in drafting the plans for our basement conversion and side return, then also in helping us obtain planning permission within the restraints of a conservation area.
