    Sunken Sanctuary

    Due to the unique constraints of the site a large portion of this split-level three-bed house needed to be partially sunkun below ground level (800mm) with the Lower Ground floor component in effect hiding behind an existing garden fence. This enabled compliance with separation distances required by Kingston’s Planning Guidance. Highly glazed courtyards and frameless rooflights ensure that the open-plan kitchen and living space still receive ample natural light. The courtyards are accessible with floor to ceiling openable sliding doors that seamlessly allow the space to flow from inside to outside, thus creating a perceptibly bigger space.
